A self-described book nerd, I am a past elementary and middle-school teacher. My teaching belief is that every student needs to have access to books that are engaging and interesting in order to learn and build a lifelong love of reading. Though it sometimes takes work to find out which books these are and get them into the hands of students, the magic that happens when a student finally reads a books he/she connects with makes the journey worth it.
My Masters degree is in Reading and Special Education. I have been teaching at the university level for two years. In 2013, I moved from Seattle, WA to Boone in order to learn even more about clinical work in reading. I am currently working on my doctorate with a focus in adolescent literacy. When I am not studying, writing, or reading, I am playing outside. I love to run, hike, explore, and camp with my husband and my dogs.
